SmarterSheet

Your Smartsheet projects in the browser: portfolio overview, a Gantt chart per project with dependencies, your open tasks, and an ITM task and hours tracker. It runs on your own computer, with your own Smartsheet API token.

Download run-smarterSheet.py Read the readme

One file, Python 3.10 or newer, no other installs. On first start it downloads the program files and walks you through the setup. When a newer version comes out, it tells you and asks before updating.

Windows and macOS

  1. Install Python 3.10 or newer from python.org. On Windows, tick "Add python.exe to PATH" in the installer.
  2. Make a folder for SmarterSheet, for example Documents\SmarterSheet, and save run-smarterSheet.py in it.
  3. Start it: double-click the file, or open a terminal in that folder and type
    python run-smarterSheet.py
    (on macOS: python3 run-smarterSheet.py).
  4. Answer the setup questions. It explains how to make your Smartsheet API token, finds your ITM sheet and its archive, and asks which projects SmarterSheet may edit. Then your browser opens http://127.0.0.1:5300/smartsheet.

Keep the window open while you use SmarterSheet; close it (or press Ctrl+C) to stop. Start it the same way next time; it remembers everything.

Linux

The Linux installer downloads the script, runs the setup, adds a smartersheet command and a background service (systemd user service, no root needed):

curl -fsSL https://smartersheet.microide.com/install-linux.sh | bash

Without the background service:

curl -fsSL https://smartersheet.microide.com/install-linux.sh | bash -s -- --no-service

To read the installer before running it:

curl -fsSLO https://smartersheet.microide.com/install-linux.sh
less install-linux.sh
bash install-linux.sh

Or run the script directly, like on Windows: python3 run-smarterSheet.py.
